Rangnick Drops Consultancy Role With Manchester United

Ralph Rangnick has dropped his expected consultancy role with Manchester United and will instead focus on his full time job as manager of the Austria national team.

Rangnick was appointed as Manchester United's interim manager in December 2021 until the end of the season, replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, after which he was expected to move into a consultancy role for two years.

The German was however appointed Austria manager in April but at the time said he would combine his new role with the Old Trafford job.

United have however announced that Rangnick will be leaving to concentrate on his job with Austria.

A club statement read: "We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months.

"By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

"We would like to wish Ralf the best of luck in this next chapter of his career."

Rangnick failed to inspire the needed change at Old Trafford following his appointment as the club finished sixth on the Premier League table and missed out on Champions League qualification.

Rangnick presided over 29 matches at United, winning 11 drawing 10 and losing eight.

Former Ajax Amsterdam boss Erik Ten Hag has since been named as the new Manchester United manager for the next three years.
